Can employees who are laid off apply for unemployment?
Yes.
All laid off employees who may previously have been ineligible may now be able to file for unemployment.They may or may not receive benefits, but they should apply. Michigan has three requirements for eligibility:
- Available for work
- Able to work –Please note: The Governor has waived this requirement in some circumstances related to the coronavirus.
- Seeking work -Please note: The Governor has waived this requirement for people who are laid off due to the coronavirus.
