Doesn't this create a conflict of interest?
In a sense, yes. But it is a disclosed conflict of interest with proper controls in place to prevent abuse. To protect both parties, a Technology Advisory Council was established, composed of lay volunteers with professional technology expertise to review and advise the Archbishop, the Moderator of the Curia and the CFO as it relates to proposed strategies and approaches introduced by VersAlta. While VersAlta is charged with review and selection of technology for the Church, any project undertaken by VersAlta is reviewed and approved by the COO and/or CFO of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
