What is Mooney Real Estate Holdings?

Mooney Real Estate Holdings (MREH) was established in 2018 to hold title to real estate for the benefit of the Archdiocese, its parishes, and other Church-affiliated parties. The majority of properties were successfully titled under MREH by the end of 2018. MREH is required under its corporate charter to be deferential to canon law. This action was an important first step regarding the property rights of our parishes. Compared to the corporate sole model, it provides a better fit between civil and canon law. The next step is to create individual parish corporations and transfer the real property titles and other parish property to the individual parish corporations. The three Southfield parishes are the first to incorporate, and title to the parish real estate and other parish property has been transferred to those parish corporations.
