Find Your Records

The Archdiocese of Detroit does not keep centralized records of any kind.

The Archives Office of the Archdiocese of Detroit has compiled a spreadsheet of all the parishes that have existed in the diocese. The first column contains the name of the former parish as it was founded; the second column provides the city where the parish was/is located; the third column gives the date of the parish’s establishment; the fourth column gives the status of the parish (ie., “active” (open), “merged” (combined), or “suppressed” (closed)); the fifth column contains notations about where the parish’s records are located.

Contact the parish if the parish where your sacrament was celebrated is open (or merged), your records remain in their care.  Parishes maintain their own records and issue sacramental certificates upon request. If a parish merged, the records are held by the merged parish.

The Archives Office issues only sacramental records from closed parishes. Request records from a parish that is closed.
