There are, within the geographic boundaries of the Archdiocese of Detroit, several Eastern Catholic churches. Led by bishops, metropolitans, and eparchs,
these churches are sui juris churches, meaning that they are autonomous churches according to canon (Church) law. At the same time, they are in full communion with the pope, recognizing the authority of the Papal Office and the College of Bishops.
While these churches are Catholic, they are not churches of the Archdiocese of Detroit, nor does the Archbishop of Detroit have any authority over them.
