Yes.
Employees who are temporarily laid off and employees with a reduction in hours may be able to apply for unemployment benefits. The current expansion of unemployment benefits in Michigan will allow employees to apply for unemployment due to the Governor’s stay at home mandate and the employer will not be charged for the cost of unemployment during this time.If the temporary layoff goes beyond the government mandate, the unemployment benefits paid to the employees are billed by the state to the MCC because we are a self-insured organization. The costs of unemployment come out of Protected Loss Funds paid for by premiums charged to the parishes.
Parishes are to provide MCC a list of all employees who have been laid off. Email the list to support@micatholic.org.
