Do suspended, permanently suspended, or laicized clergy still receive pensions?
Yes. The Priests’ Retirement Plan and Trust is approved by the Internal Revenue Service and does not permit dropping of individual recipients from pension benefits. If a priest is qualified for a pension, based on number of years of service, the diocese is not legally permitted to take away a pension.
